摘要：
The known ketoaldehyde 5, obtained in four steps from o-hydroxyacetophenone, is converted in three steps into the drug metabolite hydroxybufuralol 2 (diastereoisomers); previously 2 had been obtained in a total of thirteen steps from 4-bromophenol via bufuralol 1 itself.
