The photodissociation of NO2 within NO2 - C2H4 Complexes or small clusters excited at 355 and 266 nm leads to the formation of vibrationally and rotationally cold vinoxy radicals (CH2CHO.). On the other hand, the vinoxy radicals produced in gas phase thermal collisions are vibrationally and rotationally hot. Comparison between these experiments seems to show that two different competitive reaction paths are responsible for the different internal energy content in the vinoxy radical.
