The infertility rate in men with a previous history of cryptorchidism is estimated to be 56 per cent. Twenty such patients have entered our in vitro fertilization (IVF) program. Oligoasthenospermia (OAS) is significantly higher (48 %) than in other cases of IVF (19 %). Their fertilization capacity is impaired, with a high frequency of total absence of fertilization. Nevertheless 7 pregnancies are obtained through IVF, of which 6 are evolutive. The success rate is 26 % by stimulated cycle. 35 % by couple and 50 % by transfer. The results are identical to those observed in other indications of IVF. The authors conclude that IVF is not contra-indicated in couples with a previous history of cryptorchidism, even in case of severe OAS.
