Religious education in families - this is the theme for this article. Before coming to the challenges, the proposal is to reflect on the first part: education and religion, and in this discussion include the family. How does the family today educate their children and teenagers in a religious faith, religion or religious denomination to which it belongs to? The family still belongs to a religion? To answer these questions a social qualitative survey was conducted through a questionnaire. The research took place in a public school in a city in the Rio Grande do Sul. The survey data are presented and some issues that may instigate reflection and dialogue on the educational task of the family in today's reality.
