摘要：
This paper analyses the technical efficiency of a Portuguese hypermarket retail chain, in order to investigate the chain's performance. A stochastic Cobb-Douglas cost frontier model is used to generate retail chain efficiency scores. It is found that the chain's efficiency scores are high for some outlets and low for others. Therefore, the author proposes a modification of management procedures in order to enable efficiency to be increased, based on a governance-environment framework.
