摘要
Bismuth exerts a dual influence on the corrosion of lead beneath the PbSO4 film that is formed on the metal at applied potentials in sulphuric acid solution. First, by altering the morphology of the PbSO4 Crystals, bismuth (either alloyed with the metal, or dissolved in the acid) causes the development of a more porous film that promotes an increased attack of the underlying substrate. Second, bismuth modifies the grain structure of lead and this, in turn, determines the extent of corrosion under the PbSO4 film.
