TRANSIENT SMALL-ANGLE NEUTRON-SCATTERING OF ALIGNED MICELLES

摘要
We have studied the microscopic basis of the hydrodynamic properties of aqueous micellar solutions with time-resolved neutron diffraction after the stepwise application of shear. We found that micelles formed by tetradecyltrimethyl-ammonium-salicylate ((C14H29N(CH3)3)+-(C6H4OHCOO)-; TTMA-Sal) show a shear-induced phase transition. For studying the hydrodynamic properties of micelles formed of cetylpyridiniumsalicylate ((C16H33NC5H5) - (C6H4OHCOO)-1; CPS) the shear rate was of sinusoidal shape GAMMA = GAMMA-0 sin(omega-t) with 0.09 s-1 < omega < 3.8 s-1. Indications for an unusual enhancement of the alignment was found for omega around 0.6 s-1 and for GAMMA-0 = 20 s-1.
