Surgical repair of thoraco-abdominal ectopia cordis

Ectopia cordis is an extremely rare disease, defined as an abnormal position of the heart partially or completely outside the chest. It occurs in 5.5-7.9 per million live births. The case is presented of a newborn female with thoraco-abdominal ectopia cordis with interauricular communication, scheduled for surgery 28 days after birth. It was performed successfully without incidents or accidents, with satisfactory post-operative results at 7 months offollow-up, with adequate cardiac function Surgical treatment is the only therapeutic option associated with improved cardiac protection.
