This review article, result of research activities (2007-2009), presents some elements related to the state of the art or current state of studies on learning in virtual environments or e-learning for higher education. The researchers directly reviewed 145 studies and by means of some of them about 500 related documents. The researchers applied in their assessment content analysis and group discussion to identify recurrent categories and to interpret its meanings. At the end of the article seven findings derived from the study are discussed. The bibliography section at the final part of the text is organized this way: first we have the very references of the review article, which is a synthesis of the research, then the complete bibliography of the study is included, this is properly referenced, analyzed and is included in the book the Catholic of the North University Foundation published in august of 2009 as a result of the research process.
