SINGLE ENTEROTOMY REMOVAL OF GASTROINTESTINAL LINEAR FOREIGN-BODIES

Linear foreign bodies of various types were placed in the gastrointestinal tracts of 10 feline cadaver specimens to simulate gastrointestinal-typical clinical presentation. A technique for removal of foreign bodies via a single enterotomy then was performed. In a# cases foreign bodies were removed readily via a single enterotomy without iatrogenic trauma to the gastrointestinal tract during removal. The technique then was used in three clinical cases with excellent results. This technique allows the surgeon to minimize the number of enterotomies and surgical time required for this procedure.
