摘要
Forster, E. and Bathe, R.V., 1990. Avoiding possible confusion in usual methods of steepest ascent calculation. Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems, 9: 207-215. The method of steepest ascent is a useful possibility for optimization problems. For the past 35 years several well-known textbooks on experimental design have given detailed instructions for the calculation of the steepest ascent, which - unfortunately - are not correct. This publication has three goals: (1) to show that the calculation method given in such textbooks is wrong; (2) to give the correct method of calculation; (3) to show in which special cases the method of the textbooks and the method of this publication lead to the same results. © 1990.
