The article is dedicated to the topic of strategic analysis of a gas company diversification (with the example of the ''Peterburgregiongas'' gas distributing company). This topic is of current importance, because it helps to solve many problems of this company. Basic directions of the company's diversification are outlined in the article: diversification of the distribution areas, diversification of suppliers, a complex diversification of the company, aiming to create a unified energy holding. The article represents a scheme to carry-out analysis based on strategic management methods. This scheme renders it possible to find potential directions of diversification on the basis of this analysis. Results of the first stage of investigation that is going to be held according to this scheme are represented, i.d. carrying out a complex SWOT-analysis, revelation of main trends, existing both in the market in general and in the company in particular.
