THE SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION IN MEDICAL STUDENTS IN A AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY IN VENEZUELA

摘要
The scientific production in the "Thesis" is the result of an important educational process in health sciences. General Objective: To describe the process and the scientific production in the medical career of a Private Venezuelan university. Materials: A descriptive, cross-sectional field research in a volunteer sample of 100 study groups, who were surveyed in the year 2013 and the manuscript were revised consigned. Results: The choice of the topic or subject was influenced by the specialist tutor in 52%; 84% executed the initial project until it becomes a senior thesis; 83% reported limitations in its development; 79% were unaware of the lines of university research; 65% were developed in public health facilities; 97% self-financed the work; 92% self-assessed group performance as "good - very good"; 100% had methodological specialists and tutorials; 93% rated as "good - very good "the specialist counsel and 85% to methodologist; 54% did not know how to identify the appropriate statistical procedure; 16% performed the statistical analysis on their own and 65% had no control on the computer analysis programs; 99% of investigations were quantitative, 59% worked with humans, 72% had a sample size of up to 149 items and 99% using descriptive statistics. Conclusion: Most medical student thesis are part of the quantitative paradigm and they reach development after the project is completed, with positive performances: Intragroup and mentors/tutors, despite all the constraints the research groups have to overcome, which should be reviewed by the responsible academic bodies.
