摘要
This study estimates a dynamic model of factor demand using both fixed and quadratic variable costs of adjustment. In quarterly data on the employment of airline mechanics both types of costs characterize the dynamic constraints facing employers. In monthly data on production-worker employment in heavy manufacturing plants only fixed costs are important. The apparent diversity of the underlying costs means it is difficult to draw useful structural inferences from macro data. -Author
