ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF PORINS FROM A PARTIALLY ROUGH STRAIN OF SALMONELLA-WELTEVREDEN

Porins (4.67 mg) were isolated from a partially rough strain of S. weltevreden (wet weight 30.60 g), which was found complexed with polysaccharide (3.43 mg). The porins were identified on the basis of their chemical contentS, SDS PAGE profile, its dissociation following heat and trypsin treatments UV spectrum and molecular weight (38.5 kDa). The formation of precipirin band with the antiporins of E. coli K 12 indicated that the porins were antigenic, which corroborated their identity as porins.
