The article analyses some intellectual interventions carried out by Jose Carlos Maritegui on literature and essay which enable him to connect Indigenism and Marxism contributing, thus, to consolidate an indigenous intellectual formation and even to invent a radical indigenous tradition. It particularly approaches the creative appropriations exerted on the narrative fiction Cuentos Andinos (1920) by Enrique Lopez Albajar and on the essay Tempestad en los Andes (1927) by Luis Valcarcel
