Electrophoretic analysis of gliadin composition (electrophoresis in acid aluminum-lactate buffer, pH 3.1) of spring durum wheat variety Langdon (Triticum durum Deaf.) and its disomic substitution lines has revealed that the genes controlling 19 out of 23 components of Langdon are located on the chromosomes of the first and sixth homoeologous groups. Gliadin electrophoretic analysis of 75 F-2 grains, obtained from the cross Langdon x Leukurum 1805 has shown that all gliadin genes located on one chromosome are tightly linked and constitute a single gliadin-coding locus, since gliadin components controlled by these genes are inherited as a single Mendelian character. Gliadin of spring hard wheat is inherited codominantly in accordance with the gene dose in the triploid endosperm. By analogy with common wheat, we designated groups of gliadin components of durum wheat inherited together as blocks of gliadin components. An analysis of 16 intervarietal crosses, including 26 varieties, permitted to distinguish 8 allelic variants of blocks controlled by chromosome 1A, 4 - 1B, 17 - 6A and 9 - by chromosome 6B. A system for designation of allelic variants of blocks for durum wheat has been advanced. A catalog of gliadin blocks has been compiled, which can be used in durum wheat genetics and breeding programs.
