The present paper deals with the stability of density stratified flows through a porous medium. Unlike Beck1 and Irmay8, we have pointed out and investigated the physical situations where there is no necessity of modifying the inertia term when the flow and its stability is governed by Darcy's law. The important results obtained in the paper include a relation between two and three dimensional disturbances, the stabilizing character of porous media with high Darcy resistance, bounds on the complex wave velocity of unstable modes and a number of sufficient conditions for stability of the system.
