KNOWLEDGE, BODY AND SCHOOL: THE USE OF THE SENSES AND SOMATIC EDUCATION

Pedraza addresses the intermingling of the education of the body with certain specific forms of knowledge that are present in the education given in primary and secondary schools. The bond between learning, power and body is analyzed: learning as a specific form of knowledge that is acquired in school; power as the potency of schoolchildren (part of a way of understanding their human condition, including the acknowledgement of their capacity to use reason, will and discipline), but also as the specific shape of the relationship between teacher and schoolchildren, and among all the agents involved in their education. Finally, the essay deals with the manner in which the body materializes in school situations, and how the student's subjectivity is engaged to acquire corporeity (to be incarnated in a form), in order to obtain a specific type of knowledge.
