摘要
The deposition of polymer on the electrodes of a radiofrequency glow discharge through styrene vapour has been investigated. The polymer films have been shown to contain trapped radicals and the rate of deposition of polymer has been examined as a function of pressure and discharge power. The results have been interpreted quantitatively on the basis of a mechanism involving the competitive reactions of radicals formed on the electrodes by electron bombardment. The propagation step is considered to involve the reaction of the radicals with adsorbed monomer and with monomer diffusing to the electrodes from the gas phase.
