Delay is an essential operation in signal processing. In digital systems the delay of a signal wave-form by an integer number of samples at the current sampling rate can be trivially realized as a cascade of unit delays in the network. This paper presents a simplified alternative derivation of Liu and Wei's programmable fractional sample delay filter based on Lagrange's interpolation formula. A closed-form compact expression is derived for the coefficients of such a filter and it is shown that the equal-interval case gives the same results as obtained by using Newton's interpolation method.
