Bibliometric Analysis of the Revista Costarricense de Psicologia (Costa Rican Journal of Psychology), 2001-2011 Period. In Honor of its 30 Years of Existence

The objective of this study was to conduct a bibliometric analysis of scientific production by the Revista Costarricense de Psicologia (Costa Rican Journal of Psychology) from 2001 through 2011, in order to ascertain the trends and characteristics of scientific publication in Psychology during this period. For this, a database was constructed with the eleven printed and electronic volumes. The total number of articles and the total number of references were analyzed. The bibliometric indicators for each publication analyzed were: year of publication, authors. gender, country of origin, type of document, branch of Psychology, focus of the research, reference rate and type of institution. The results were: (a) male gender predominated among authors, (b) Costa Rica was the country that has published most in the journal, (c) type of document most published was the essay, (d) the most frequent branch of Psychology dealt with in the articles was, unknown., since the articles did not provide sufficient information or included several branches of Psychology; however, the second most frequently published branch of Psychology was Social Psychology, (e) the predominant focus was hermeneutics, (f) the most commonly used type of reference were specialized books, and (g) academic institutions were the most common source for publication.
